What is Technology?

In order to answer how various technologies have impacted my life, I must first ask what technology is. If you go with the definition in the reading, " Technology is the process by which humans modify nature to meet their needs and wants," the task is quite daunting. According to this definition, just about everything is technology. A car impacts my life by allowing me to travel further and faster than I could on horse or on foot. Going even more basic than that, a wheel can be considered technology. I won’t even get into all the applications of the wheel.

In order for this blog to end sometime this century, I think the topic is intended to be limited to modern technology. Without computers, I wouldn’t have a major (I’m computer graphics technology). I wouldn’t be able to post this. I would be constantly getting lost whenever I went somewhere new (mapquest is my friend). However, I don’t much notice the impact of technology. My dad started an ISP when I was about 6 years old. So I grew up with internet. My parents have had cell phones for as long as I can remember (I didn’t get one until high school). I grew up watching Star Trek and Star Wars. Since I expect technology to continue to improve and expand, I’m more likely to notice the effect when technology doesn’t work than when it does.

Hi Rachel,
Glad to see your blog and it really taught me a lot, since I didn't know what technology was either.
In my opinion, technology is something that help our daily life to be more convenient and colorful. Is that right?
I also wish that computers can be improved with its impact instead of abandon them. I can not imagine what the world will be like if there is no computer anymore.
